You may have seen the update videos on our Insta story, but if not: it worked! The Giraffe arrived safely and intact in Baku, and we were able to pick her up at the (very chaotic, rather confusing) customs zone south of the city. It is a VERY dirty vehicle now, there is some damage but thankfully nothing major, as far as we've been able to ascertain.
Perhaps the most disturbing were the grimy fingerprints everywhere inside, and the missing bottles of our special Bonviva wine - one which I was hoping to still enjoy myself, the others intended as presents for people along the way. :(
Anyway: things could have turned out much, much worse. So we're thankful and trying to shrug off the suspicion of someone inspecting our private space (or even living in it for a couple of days?). Maybe the fingerprints on the glasses are just because they were curious; after all, we do have super cool Silwy glasses that hang upside down from a magnet strip.
In any case, we spent 2 nights the Holiday Inn in Baku, which was a great choice! They welcomed our Giraffe to the hotel, giving us a prominent and secure parking spot directly in front of the lobby. We offered tours to the very helpful reception and parking staff - they were thrilled and we had fun. :) We also enjoyed a couple of days with access to a nice gym and the phenomenal breakfast at the hotel. And used the time to clean the inside of the Giraffe, so that we can live in it again.
And now, we are on our way again! We had a great day yesterday in Gobustan, which I will post about shortly. And I still need to post about the tour to Sheki. So there is lots more coming, it's just difficult to know when. We're currently waiting to board the ferry to Turkmenbashi (the process of which is worth it's very own post!), and once we hit Turkmenistan, access to the internet will be difficult. So it might only be in 10-12 days that we can post again. We'll be writing as we go and then do a massive upload when we can!
